Photo Critique:

This is a featured photograph by Arjun Purkayastha taken in Beijing, China during the construction of the 2008 Olympics. I love the photographer's focus on the hard hats. It is a unique shot that the photographer seems to want us to see the silliness of the clashing of the crowd of suits and their bright orange hard hats. I like that he included the construction machines in the background and that they are slightly out of focus, but clear enough to recognize what they are.

Photo essay: Linn-Benton Construction

Out of the 23,821 student that enrolled in at least one class at Linn-Benton Community College in 2005-2006, five thousand of them enrolled in a science class. Voters have established the need for a science and health building that will certify Linn-Benton for a silver certification from Leadership in Energy and Design. The new "green" building will be energy, water, and atmosphere efficient consisting of a dual flush toilet system saving 20% more water, low heat absorbing roof, and solar power voltaic windows. The construction work is not far under way as walls are to put up next month and classes for students will be open in 2010. A conceptual art drawing is shown above illustrating the completion of construction courtesy of Linn-Benton .Visit the Administrative office for more information about the Science and health construction project. These pictures were taken March 6 and 11.

Photo Critique: Portriats

Randy Herron was my model for my portrait shots last term in my Introduction to Photography class. I love this series of pictures because he expresses himself differently in each one. And the viewer can get a real good idea of the light-hearted fun guy he really is.(Nov. 2009).

Sports Action Shot: Indoor Soccer

Shot on goal by Christo FC's player Marcus Zamora (black shirt) wasn't good enough for Thizz Kid's goalie Josh Mathew's diving skills.

Thizz Kids player Roberto González (white shirt) dribbles down field with Christo FC close behind.

It was a tough battle for both teams playing Wednesday Feb. 25, 2009 in the Men's Upper Intermediate League of indoor soccer at the Corvallis Sports Park. Christo FC (colored shirts) tied with Thizz Kids (White shirts) eight to eight.

Photo Critque: Basketball Action Shot

This action shot is by Neil Hodgins Feb. 19, 2009. I absolutely love this shot. It's unique, and there is so much action and excitement from the players charging towards the camera. It feels like this was a moment worth freezing. A viewer could take a lot of time looking at each of the players in this photo and view the expression on each of their faces.

Photo Critque: Table Tennis Action Shot

This Action shot was taken by Neil Hodgins Feb. 28, 2009. I like this shot because of the wide angel view. I also like the light behind the Table Tennis player. I love that the ball is in great placement and the timing of the shot is just right.

Phot Critque: Koala and Fireman

Mark Pardew / Associated Press
This is a great feature photo found in the Los Angeles Times Feb. 11, 2009 for the resent fires happening in Australia. I love the relationship the photo shows between the thirsty Koala and a sympathetic fireman. The paw in his hand is a money maker! I would diffidently splash this all over the front page of a newspaper.

My Neighborhood

My next door neighbor Randall is preparing to start off his day at the bike rack for his early morning class at OSU.
My neighborhood is mostly filled with college students. Here are a group of students crowded on the morning bus on their way from Corvallis to Linn-Benton Community College for their first class of the day.
The early morning sprinkle also brings out another neighbor of mine, the Corvallis Fire Department as they sit their bright red firetrucks outside for a rinse down.

Phot Critque: Airplane Engine

This is a photo looking out of the window of an airplane fly from Orange County, California to Seattle late June, 2008. I like this shot because it's unique. The picture shows the movement of the engine motor not projecting a sharp blade, but a soft line that flows with the rest of the personality of the photo. Which is relaxing, peaceful, and gives the viewer a gratifying knowledge that everything is moving smoothly and perfectly.

Phot Critque: Junk Yard

This is a feature photo of a vehicle junkyard I took for fun Jan, 26, 2009. This Junkyard is right across Linn-Benton Community College and I pass it every day to school in complete aww and total interest. What a unique yard full of rusting old cars, tractors and machinery. I love the collection of old leaves piling up in the window and the bright green moss sprouting around the sides of the car and the fence. I also like how the branches at the top of the picture and the line of the fence at the bottom give a nice frame entire photo. The picture shows a sign in the window of an old rusting car that this is not just someone’s yard but it is a business as well.

Critque: Environmental Portrait

This is an environmental portrait I took Fall term 2008 in Photo 101 of a friend's daughter Eva age two laying on her living room floor coloring. I love the point of view I shot at. I had to lay on my belly beside her. She was so easily distracted, it was easy for me to just disappear and shoot her while she played. The only thing I would change is the clutter in the background. Dec. 2008.

Critique: Coyote wrestler

Coyote wrestler Doug Eoff poses with his dog Candy in front of his home in Frederick, Oklahoma. July 7, 2007. Photograph by Kelly Kerr.

Overall this picture is just so-so, it looks a bit candid and I don't think the house in the background is necessary, but overall a good feature photo. The best part is the caption and title of this shot that makes it quite hilarious. The title of the shot is called, "Hand Wrestling Coyotes". So you expect to see a strong man wrestling a coyote with his bare hands, but you don't. Instead you see this friendly picture of his feminine looking dog nudging the smiling old man with a rifle in his hand. The caption says, "self-proclaimed coyote hunter poses with his dog, Candy". Hahahaha! This coyote wrestler's dog's name is Candy!

Featured photo: Linn-Benton Bus Loop

Students ride to school dressed for a cold day. Luckily, the bus is heated. This picture was taken in December on the Linn-Benton bus loop to Corvallis.

Ride Linn-Benton's heated bus loops free everyday with a student ID and a brightly colored bus sticker from the Registration Desk in Taneka Hall. The Linn-Benton loop picks up and drops off students from locations around Corvallis and Albany. Check out the Linn-Benton bus loop schedule at

Tied Up Dog and Run Away Ball Feature Photo

This photograph I shot Fall term of 2008 of a playful dog tied up to a post in the front yard who had tossed a ball over to me as I was walking by. I love how trustful she was to toss a stranger her bright yellow ball...if I hadn't picked it up she would not be able to retrieve it because of her short red leash. This is a picture of the yellow ball waiting to be picked up, and the black and white border collie waiting patently in the background. Later I learned that the dog's name is Possum...very ironic for a trustful dog to be named Possum.

Love the bright colors in this shot, very playful, just like Possum.
